Description
Bearing flowers that bring a new look to lacecap Hydrangeas, Wedding Gown produces large clusters of what we think are some of the most beautiful flowers we’ve ever seen on a hydrangea…perfect for use in bridal bouquets. Though difficult to do with words, we’ll try to describe the flowers for you. As with other lacecaps a center cushion of small florets are surrounded by a ring of larger flowers. Wedding Gown is unique in that its showy, double, pristine white sterile florets droop from long but graceful peduncles arranged in an outer ring surrounding a large clump of much smaller double white to soft green florets in the center of the flower head with total of about 600 florets per inflorescence!
The flowers on the Wedding Gown Hydrangea stand out remarkably well against the 3 feet tall by 4 feet wide mound of 6 inch long deep green leaves. The 4 to 6 inch diameter flower clusters are produced on both old and new wood. If the first flush of flowers are deadheaded new buds form that open and take the flower show through summer into early fall. The flowers are excellent for cutting and provide a long-lasting display in your favorite vase.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a mound 3 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide, the Wedding Gown Hydrangea is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings or as a colorful low hedge in shady to partially shaded landscape borders, home foundation plantings, and perennial gardens. Also suitable for growing in somewhat large containers of 14 inches or more in diameter. A fine addition to Hydrangea gardens, white theme gardens, shade and woodland gardens, cut flower gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 3 to 4 feet apart for solid hedge; 7 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Cold Hardiness Zone 5a, where this Hydrangea variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know that it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and place back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Wedding Gown Hydrangea prefers full sun in northern zones and some afternoon shade or filtered sun the farther south you go. It adapts to various soil types however prefers a moist but well-drained loamy soil. Not too wet though…Hydrangea don’t like constantly soggy soil. This hydrangea blooms on old wood and new growth so if the forst flush of flowers are deadheaded new buds will form that open through summer into fall. USDA Zones: 5a-9b Find Your Zone

I’m trying to replace plants that I had at my home in Paradise, CA which burned in 2018. The plants that II had in zone 9 didn’t receive as much rain and shade so now that I live in zone 8a/9 depending on the websites for plants, and I have ALOT of rain, I have to be careful about the plants that I purchase..
I came across Wilson Bros. and gave them a try. I have never, and I mean never, purchased a plant through the mail. Where I lived in Paradise, we had a local gardener around the corner. Where I live now, is a bit in the sticks plus with Covid, I realized that I needed to try online plants.
The Wilson Bros. website is easy to use, and to coordinate plants that might go together with their “other customers also purchased” or “may we suggest”. I have gone to their site for plants time and again and I have never been disappointed. Every plant that I have purchased, and there have been a minimum of 20, have arrived well packaged, and cared for. My Hydrangea look very healthy and I know that I will have blooms this spring because they have retained their leaves and buds. If anyone has questions or concerns about buying from Wilson Bros. please read this review. I’m very serious about my plants, and they are very serious about the plants they send and the customer.——————————–Thanks so much for the kind words and another great review! We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase!! Beth | WBG 🙂
