Description
If you love the looks of the award-winning Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangea but don’t have room for a larger plant then say hello to its dwarf cousin: Strawberry Sundae! You’ll get the same profusion of long-lasting, large, snow cone shape flower clusters that open creamy white and gradually fade to pink and strawberry-red, but on smaller plants that grow to only 4 to 5 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. Flowering begins in mid-summer and continues well into fall. You’ll see all colors on the plant simultaneously, which provides a stunning, colorful effect in your landscape.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in an upright rounded form 4 to 5 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, Strawberry Sundae makes an impressive specimen in smaller garden spaces. In larger spaces, it is spectacular in groupings or as a colorful low hedge. Also a nice addition to mixed flowering shrub borders, as an accent in home foundation plantings, as a background in perennial gardens, and in large pots, planters or other containers of 16 inches or more in diameter. A fine addition to Hydrangea gardens, pink theme gardens, cut flower gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 3 to 3.5 feet apart for solid hedges; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Strawberry Sundae Hydrangea is exceptionally easy to grow when planted right and in the right spot. Almost any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility will do. It can take the heat at our location here in north-central Georgia, but is also exceptionally cold hardy, withstanding even the coldest winter temperatures as far north as USDA Zone 3a, where it will also tolerate full, all day sun. In zones 7 and 8 it will tolerate full sun however we’ve seen it perform and look its best with a little filtered sun or dappled shade during the hottest hours of summer afternoons. Too much shade and plants become floppy with diminished flowering. For best flowering, 5 hours of direct sunlight per day or all day lightly filtered sun is suggested.
Note: Strawberry Sundae is a Hydrangea paniculata species that produces its flowers from buds that are formed on “new wood” (the current season’s growth). This means you don’t want to prune them in late spring or summer when they’re preparing to bloom.

The Strawberry Sundae Hydrangea arrived on time and in perfect shape. It was planted the next day and looks spectacular in my shrub border. The plant was large and fully developed almost 3 feet tall with dark green leaves covering the shrub.. There was no sign of any damage either from abuse or from pests. I am so pleased with the service from Wilson Bros. and will continue to order more plants as they come available. My only complaint is that I want to buy faster than the company can re-stock ! I’ll work on my patience. Thanks to Wilson Bros. for offering such great products at affordable prices !————————————–You’re very welcome! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and wonderful review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
Good morning. As I consider your requests for individual reviews that you will use to let potential customers know if you are “legit”; I would like to offer the general review below for your consideration and use:
In this day and age of point and click and purchase, one learns quickly that anyone can post a picture of a plant and make a promise and post both and even pay to have their page placed in such a manner that when you search, they are right in front of you.
I would like to save you the hassle and trouble of learning that not all pictures tell a true story when it comes to what you get when you click on the picture and wait for the plants to arrive.
With Wilson Brothers Gardens you do not have to worry: what you see is what you will get. What you will get is a delivery with the plants packed in such a manner that shows they have spent time researching the most effective way to make sure that your plants arrive without being damaged in the shipping process.
When you open the box, no matter what size plant you purchase, the plant will be healthy and happy to see you!
The plants have a consistent quality and come with detailed instructions on planting and care and as if that is not enough; you can email with any questions and get a prompt and professional response usually that same day.
So, picture this: a company who tells the truth in what they post and takes pride in their plants and cares about each and every one of them in such a manner that as a customer you know that what you see is what you get because of what you do not see behind the scenes of their operation: a quality company committed to provide both quality product and customer service.
(Thank you so much for the manner in which you do what you do. I have been redoing my mothers landscaping and tell all the neighbors about where the plants came from and now they know when the see the delivery boxes by her garage door that something new is on the way into the landscaping!)———————————————Wow! You’re very welcome! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy your purchase for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG

Just wanted to let you know that the strawberry sundae hydrangea that you sent me took 11 days to get to my home. I was expecting the worst, but the little plant still had green leaves, and the soil around it was moist. Hats off to whoever does the packing over there. My hydrangea is safely in the ground up here in Washington State.————————————We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the kind words and great review! Beth | WBG 🙂
This was a replacement for a strawberry sundae I purchased last year. The original plant grew great, produced flowers but the flowers remained white never turned pink/red. Maybe it was incorrectly labeled?
However, Gabie and Wilson Bros made good on their guarantee.
Sent me a new strawberry sundae.
It arrived in good shape and ready for Fall planting.
Very happy with this company.——————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG

The plant arrived quickly, and was well-packed. But it must have been in a hot truck for too long; all the leaves were completely dried and crispy, and had fallen off. The plant was a bundle of twigs. But, ever the optimist, I planted it, and several weeks later, new leaves have appeared, and the plant seems healthy. Hopefully, the plant will get established before winter sets in….———————————-Let us know how it fairs. We are glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the review! Beth | WBG 🙂
