Description
This is the 2-ball poodle tier version of the Buxus sempervirens ‘Aureovariegata’, a showy variegated Boxwood featuring dark green leaves with margins that start out white turning cream and then golden. The leaves really make this shrub stand out in the landscape, especially in partially shaded areas, thought it will also thrive in full sun. It is excellent for containers or planted in garden beds and only requires one trimming per year to keep its distinct poodle-tier form.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 4 to 5 tall over time depending on pruning, the Variegated Boxwood 2-Ball Poodle Tier can be grown in containers or the ground. It is ideal for use as an accent or use two to frame an entryway. A fine addition to formal gardens, fragrance gardens and topiary gardens.
Suggested Spacing: Best as specimen or use two to frame an entryway
Growing Preferences
The Variegated Boxwood is easy to grow in a moist but well-drained soil of average or better fertility and full sun to part shade. We think it shows off it’s foliage color best in partially shaded environments. Three or more hours of direct sunlight per day is suggested. As with many other plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic, so make sure the planting site is a well-drained one. It only requires one trimming per year to keep its poodle tier form. This trimming is best done in late winter just prior to the emergence of new growth in early spring. That said, if you miss this time wait until the new growth has matured later in spring to trim.
